Output options
Can I download a trial evaluation version?
Yes. Corporate or LE customers should contact us for a link and password. Please also have a clean 1GB pen drive ready.
Having trouble connecting to the server to download a trial/ updates?
Ensure you use an unrestricted internet connection. This means NO active firewall, anti-virus, pop-up blocker or malware scanners. The same applies for provisioning the software.
What files do I need to download?
kickstart.exe - this one file will perform provisioning and setup. PDF manuals can be found in the Documents folder.
Does iXAM® cover the latest iOS version from Apple?
Check the FTP server for updates – a patch may be available in an appropriately named folder.
What is the recommended system setup?
Stand alone Windows XP/Vista/7 installation, with MS Office 2007 or 2010.
I have iTunes installed already, will this cause a problem?
We don’t recommend using iXAM on a machine which has or have had iTunes installed on them.
Does iXAM® support 64-bit systems?
iXAM will work on x64 Windows Vista and 7, iXAMiner requires a 32-bit installation of Office. This can be on an x64 machine.
Will the software work in a boot-camp or VM environment, or using shared drives?
No. These methods are untested and therefore unsupported.
I see an HFS driver error message when trying to use iXAMiner?
iXAMiner requires the use of Mediafour’s MacDrive software to enable the mounting of a full file acquisition. This
software is not supplied and needs to be purchased separately.
Where should I point iXAMiner once I have performed a device acquisition?
Select ’File Source’ from the drop-down menu under the gold arrow icon, and browse to the XML file associated with the download.
Can you advise the current capability with regard to decoding video footage?
iXAMiner should extract video with the following file types : mp4, avi, mpe, mpeg, mpg, mkv, mov, mvi, divx, flv
However, we currently only look for videos in the Media/DCIM folder, which is where the built-in video camera app normally stores them. Videos in any other folder will not currently be reported.
What does the ‘media’ folder in the iXAMiner report contain?
The Media folder serves to hold any files referenced by the extracted datasets. This includes, but it not necessarily limited to:
• Email attachments • Images associated with address book entries • MMS media • Voicemails
• Audio recordings • Pictures and videos captured with the internal camera • Data associated with third-party apps
The folder is not present on the device. It serves to hold any data which the report hyperlinks to, and as such may include files which have been:
• Copied/decoded from files in a logical read • Extracted from files in a physical image
• Extracted from database records
All files copied into the Media folder (except third-party app data) are included in the Created Files list for disclosure purposes.
When will you support iPad 2?
Development in this area is in the primary stage. We expect to see further development once Apple releases the fifth generation iPhone. However it should be noted both these products utilise a different chip-set to previous iOS devices, which may mean different approaches are required.
I have another problem or need help, how do I report it?
Please email info@ixamforensics.com with your query, including details of your system setup, software installation versions and kit serial number if you have one, plus the device model you are trying to connect.
